Happy Halloween!

From the scariest witch and vampire around. Lydia won best costume in second grade at school. I’m sure Liam would have won something too but he was to shy to go up to the contest. We had a great time at our annual Halloween party and trick-or-treating.

Liam Day

Liam has been a bit of a handful lately. I was so tired of putting him in time out and fussing at him constantly. I decided to make him a sticker chart. He had three goals a day. 1. Be kind to Goosey. 2. Speak to everyone nicely. 3. Listen to Mom and Dad immediately and without talking back. It worked like a charm. He could earn 3 stickers a day and when he earned 60 stickers he got to have a “Liam Day” with just Mom and Dad. We gave L the boot (she went to Nan and Pop’s) and Liam picked a fishing day and ice cream. It has been the best several weeks we’ve had in a long time. I hope the pleasant behavior and good habits continue! If not, this kid may have a sticker chart until he’s 18!

Rock Ranch (Hot Air Balloon Festival)

The Rock Ranch is Kathy Truett’s (Founder of Chick-fil-a) family retreat farm and every year they put on a hot air balloon festival.  This is becoming a tradition for our family (going 2 years in a row now).  If you plan on going, it is about 1.5 hour drive South from Atlanta and they have all kinds of activities for the family.  From petting farm animals and pony rides, to zip-lining and rock climbing.

As long as the breeze isn’t too strong, they will have hot air balloons ready to give people tethered rides during the day, and in the evening when the breeze settles down and it gets dark, they put on a hot air balloon glow.

Tips:

  • Go early, right when they open (if you’re going during the Hot Air Balloon festival).  You can take a train ride and pony rides first before the lines get too long.
  • They say you can’t take food in, but many people still bring a small soft cooler to host snacks and drinks.  You can do that if you don’t want to pay inflated food prices while there… and maybe store a larger cooler with lunch in the car so later you can run back and bring a picnic in.
  • Bring a picnic blanket, and if you stay for the Balloon Festival, probably some more blankets to snuggle in while you watch.

Burt’s Farm (Pumpkin Patch)

Burt’s Farm – Fall Pumpkin Patch

One of the best pumpkin patches in Georgia!  And quite popular too.  Over the years we’ve seen the crowds growing at Burt’s… so if you go, try to go in the morning right at open.  You’ll walk through patches of pumpkins all kinds of sizes, colors, and shapes.  They offer hay rides, great photo ops, food and more.  But if you come to Burt’s, you might as well go down the street a minute to Amicalola State Park and hike to the falls!  See more about Amicalola.
